Legislations (Gazette Notifications)

Ozone Depleting Substances (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000 provide comprehensive set of regulations to control and monitor production and use of ODS in India. These rules were developed on the basis of deliberations with various stakeholders since 1995 and were notified on 19 July 2001. Three amendments have been issued to this rule extending the date of registration of enterprises consuming certain categories of Ozone Depleting Substances.

As per the Ozone Rules, all producers and consumers of Ozone Depleting Substances have to be registered with authorities specified in the Rules.Further, all wholesalers, dealers, traders and sellers of Ozone Depleting Substances will have to be registered, integrating the supply chain.

New investments and expansions of manufacturing facility for the production of ODS are prohibited. Setting up enterprises consuming ODSs or expansion of such facilities is also prohibited. Reclamation and destruction of ODS is also regulated by the rules.
